Population estimates

What the number means

Nearby residents is an approximate count of people living within the selected area around the last-seen location. It describes the local population, rather than the number of people who will see an advertisement.

Source and attribution

Population data: WorldPop, University of Southampton. We use the 2025 population layer supplied by the WorldPop Global2 API. WorldPop describes its data under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International license; see its data-use and attribution guidance.

How we calculate the estimate

We round the selected coordinates to approximately 100-meter precision, construct a circular boundary using the selected radius, and request the estimated population inside it. We round the returned count for display. Results use the source’s 2025 population model and are not a live census of people currently present. Water, terrain, geographic resolution and source coverage can affect accuracy.

Results may be cached and reused for nearby searches. When a lookup fails or returns no usable population data, we show “Not available.”
